What kind of software are you interested in? As an accountant I have used Oracle and CODA, and my dh has used SunAccounts and Oracle.
There is also SAP, JD Edwards, OpenSystems, well bloody loads really! What is the point of the list you are compiling?

rosiejoy · 10/11/2009 14:22

thanks for response

i'm writing a survey. want to ask a bunch of accountants what packages they are using, multiple choice question, but finding it hard to tell from my google search which ones real people actually use!

Viztopia

Quickbooks

preggersplayspop · 10/11/2009 14:31

There are loads and loads of them. I would either leave it as an open question or list maybe a few most popular and then have a box for 'other'.

rosiejoy · 10/11/2009 14:33

thanks, yeah i agree!

soooo, which are the most popular then? (top5? top3)

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 10/11/2009 14:36

Again, the most popular depend on what tier of business you are looking at.

Tier 1 products tend to be SAP or Oracle.

Tier 2 is stuff like Sun, Coda, JD Edwards

Then there's smaller tier 3 stuff like Sage and Quickbooks.

preggersplayspop · 10/11/2009 14:36

I knew you would ask that! I'm no expert.

What sort of accountant? Big company, small company, book-keeping? They are probably different depending on the nature of use.

preggersplayspop · 10/11/2009 14:37

I think CantSleep and I are on the same wavelength, but I am much less knowledgeable!

thanks for all your help preggers and cantsleep

cantsleep thats great, just what i needed. am planning to contact all accountants and bookkeepers in the county, so all size of business!

thanks again

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 10/11/2009 17:29

Gosh, where will you find a list of all accountants in the county?!

rosiejoy · 10/11/2009 18:29

i have a database to work from- not sure where it came from. im working for my parents, only been there a couple of weeks

OP posts:
preggersplayspop · 10/11/2009 18:52

I'm not sure how practical that it is going to be to reach all of them - there are many different types of accountants, registered with various different bodies. There are also many unqualified but experienced bookkeepers etc etc. I doubt there is a single database with them all on. Do you mean in the whole country, or your local county?

Good luck with it though!

rosiejoy · 10/11/2009 19:10

in the county.

we're not looking for 100% response rate anyway. its one of many aspects to a marketing campaign we're doing. more about letting people know we're here than a hard sell, and i'm creating a survey to get some sort of feedback and guage the market a little better.

am enjoying the work. feels nice to be doing something i can really believe in, my parents have a 'good' company, i really believe in what they offer, they dont rip people off, they offer genuine advice to potential customers etc, turn away work they dont believe they are able to do etc rather than bodge job.

this is the first time they've done any sort of sales/marketing type stuff, so we are really interested to see who we can reach and what sort of feedback we get!

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 10/11/2009 19:45

I'm very curious now. What does your company do? And which county, just in case I should be looking out for your survey?! Although I'd be surprised if I appeared on many current databases.

rosiejoy · 10/11/2009 20:20

I'm a bit scared to say, feel like i might get them in trouble somehow! Or that it might look unprofessional to anyone who does get something from us!

Not the same county as you I'm afraid. I suppose I can say briefly that we provide IT support in a nutshell- can work out what you need, supply equipment ,and do maintenance contracts too so if any probs about anything IT then our customers can call out and we fix it for them

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 10/11/2009 22:05

Hardware support or software support?
You'd be hard pushed to just pick up a software support contract without extensive experience of the product (I used to install, configure and support one of the packages that I've mentioned).

rosiejoy · 11/11/2009 20:51

Primarily hardware. they have supplied software to accountants in the past, but only if they took out a support contract and it was part of a larger job they were doing for the company.

I have used CODA, CedAr, Oracle Financials SAP, QuickBooks, Access Accounting, SunAccounts, MYOB, Sage, Resource 3200, Microsoft Great Plains and Agresso (GP and Agresso being my personal favourite).

Oblomov · 15/11/2009 17:03

Interesting.
I have used quite a few:
SAP, Sage, Oracle, Sun Accounts, Iris,Viztopia, Quickbooks, MYOB, Great Plains.

Never used JD Edwards or OpenSystems, CODA, CedAr, Access Accounting, Resource 3200, Agresso.

Wonder which is the best ?
Never found one that I thought was reasonable.
Interesting that finefat liked GP(can't say I was that fond) and agresso (which I haven't used).

Which is the best then, ladies
?

Shinyshoegirl · 25/11/2009 21:07

I know Sage has loads of critics, but personally I quite like it. Nice and easy for non-accountants to use (assuming there's someone knowledgeable on hand for the tricky stuff). Also lots of people have experience with it. Finally, there's lots of cheapo add-ons available so you can do more stuff with it.
