Would you lie on an application form ?

If you realy needed a new job, would you or have you lied ?

If you did were you ever found out ?

I am asking as dp is applying for a new job and with his history of depression he stands no chance so should he tell them or not btw the form does ask !

what job is it? why does it matter if he has a history of depression, it's none of their business. I wouldn't lie, but I might leave out info that I didn't think they needed iyswim

its a postman, the perfect job he will be left alone to get on with it no stress or hassal

If they don't ask don't say. Problem might be if he has to have a medical or in interview, you'll have to practise what he'll say!

If the form asks then I would be worried about being found out to lie at a later date. It wouldnt do him much good for applying for future jobs if he has lied on a past application form.

But he realy realy needs to get out of where he is working now as it's making him so ill and he is likely to walk out very soon.

Oh, I didn't read your first post properly. If they ask you have to tell them, especially if his current employer could mention it.

I wouldnt lie, id just leave it blank.

Its for reasons like this that people are afraid to get help.

its a health questionaire and one of the questions is have you ever suffered from anxiety/depression
are you taking medication, has the treatment finished then it asks you to write further info !!!!!

yeah, but if you leave it blank they will know anyway wont they? It might not even matter, my mum has a history of depression, had to take time off work but has just got a new job no problem.

I think you should probably say yes - don;t know your exact circumstances - is your dh currently taking medication? You could tick the yes box and not give any more details....
It's hard to answer this without knowing all the circumstances.

I think I would tell the truth. They may refer him for a medical or ask whether they can contact his doctor for a medical report.

I have employed someone who has disclosed depression in the past. However, I would not employ someone who had lied by omission on an application form!

If the medical questionnaire goes only to Occupational Health then his managers/ interviewers should not see it. OH will probably want a medical report from his doctor if he mentions it, but should only tell the manager whether or not they consider him fit for work and/or any adjustments the manager should make for him.

TBH I would tell. But my sister (who is an employment lawyer) advised in a similar case that whether a candidate tells or not does not affect rights under the Disability Discrimination Act. Whether that is the case or not if the company specifically asks I don't know. Might be worth checking with a lawyer first. OTT maybe but you never know. My husband has long-term depression so I'd say think ahead!

yes he was off it but lots of stress in current job forced him back on them anti phycotics for the anxiety and anti d's

Looking at the question, is there anything positive he can say?
Recent single episode of depression, under medication since whatever date, with no recurrences, for example, would be no issue for most employers IMO.
If it's long-term, then maybe there's a way to emphasise compliance with treatment, continuing to work, anything at all like that?
