Ironing - if you sent it out, would you rather pay per item or on an hourly rate?

Hi - that's it really. Investigating setting up a small business with a friend to do ironing (not including collections or deliveries) We're stuck on deciding between the two.....which would you prefer? TIA

I take shirts to the cleaners to be ironed (on a machine) and pay per item. This suits me just fine!

i pay per item and she collects and delivers.

yes lonicera (great name) it is great value she charges £5 an hour

Per item (the system my ironing lady uses). I know exactly how much I'm going to have to pay.

Would avoid a per hour service, tbh.

Thanks all - this is really helpful! The general consensus therefore is per item 4:1 above per hour, but everybody wants collection and delivery....bugger! Many thanks x

I'm lazy enough to pay someone to iron for me. I'd need to have a hatred of ironing to make a 1 hour 10 trip twice a week in order to drop off the ironing.

My ironing service do trips out to certain areas of different days of the week.

Would just be chuffed someone else was doing it!

I used to use a local ironing service & they charged by weight for general clothing, per item for bedding & anything extra such as starched shirts etc

I then got a cleaner who also did ironing & paid by the hour - I was quite happy with that arrangement but it was more a case of do as much as you can in an hour rather than here's my ironing for the month then tell me how long it took you & I'll pay accordingly. Make sense?!

So, my vote is combination of weight & per item!

Is it just me that doesn't iron then!!
I hang stuff to dry on the airer, and apart from the odd cotton or linen trousers, none of it needs ironing.

Over the years I have paid by item (with one ironing service) and by the hour (with 3 ironing services) and I prefer by the hour. It was cheaper. My current ironing lady can iron 9 shirts and a set of duvet covers and pillow cases in less than an hour - that is about £8.

I wouldn't do it by weight at all - unless you weigh all your laundry you have no idea how much it is going to cost. I know how many shirts I can do in an hour so I have a rough idea what the hourly rate would be and obviously per item speaks for itself.
