Need advice for an interview handout.

I have an interview next week and have been asked to prepare a 10 minute presentation. This presentation will be expected to be on Powerpoint.

I've spoken to someone in the HR dept today and he mentioned a handout. Would this be just a copy of my headings and bullet points or should it be everything that I say during the presentation?

I haven't had an interview for over 10 years and have never used powerpoint or done a presentation before. I'm confident about what I'm talking about, but want to make sure that I do everything correctly. If I get the job, it will be a miracle!!

i'd suggest your nhand out should be the slides themselves - which in themselves should be a SUMMARY of your points, not the full text.
you could produce soem additional examples, say, of whatever it is you are talking about. i go for simple everytime and allow for machinary to fail you! oh yes and spell check, on here i never can be bothered but in RL i do everytime

It depends on the job tbh.

You want to make sure that when they look at your handout and compare it to others they are impressed and they can remember what you say.

If your hand out is to give them material ot quote i.e. you want to make sure a lazy journalist gets the message across well, then you put lots of words that they can lift.

If however, what you are offering to the role is specialised, you want to ensure that you are not giving them free consultancy and therefore you want them to be impressed with your ideas but not have them explicitly written down.

Good practice with powerpoint presentations is to use the slides to illustrate your points, not BE the points, - however sadly not all interviewers know this and sometimes you can be judged for empty screens, so I reckon you'll be best with a balance.

Thanks for the replies. Do i give them the handout at the beginning of the presentation, or when I've finished talking?

When I sit on interview panels I prefer to have the handout at the beginning. I'd be expecting to see the powerpoint slides in handout mode. There is an option for it in the software if you look.
