how or should dh ask for a payrise we could really do with it please advise........

basically dh took on a job nearly over a year ago as a intructor/lecturer.He didnt have any teaching experience etc but had the backgorund experience and so when they offered him the job via the phone they said they would offer him 24k on starting and an increase to 28k once hes settled in and qualified. Well hes been on the courses theyve provided and taken on a big role in the company as they are short staffed etc if a little desperate. Hes been there for nearly a year short of 2wks and yet still no payrise. It isnt in his contract for the payrise but it was the verbal offer they made him so how or should he bring it up?

bump for you as sounds similar to my bloke but he's only on £22K

He needs to ask for a meeting and say that when he started he was promised a pay rise once x,y and z happened and provide evidence that these things have happened and provide evidence of the contribution he has made.

he needs to prepare well for the meeting and just be factual.

im hoping hes going to have an annual review at some point so im guessing that would be the ideal time to bring it up. I think he feels with the recession and everything and people losing their jobs it isnt the best time to ask.

It probably isn't the best time to ask, but there's nothing to lose by asking anyway and at least getting a bit of solid information. He should go prepared as trixy said, to his appraisal if one is due shortly, or to a specific meeting, and talk it through.

It may be that they are not in a financial position to give him a rise at the moment, but given he was promised one, he is perfectly justified in asking for it and getting proper information if they can't give it.
