Anyone here an Avon Rep - what's it like, is it worth doing?

Afternoon! I was trying to think of some ways to earn a few extra pennies and am wondering about becoming an Avon Rep - we don't get any catalogues around here so maybe it would be worth a shot.

I just wondered if anyone else here has done this and what it is like? Do you need lots of storage space for items/catalogues? I assume you get a certain amount of catalogues which you deliver, then collect later and deliver to other homes etc, otherwise you would need thousands of them?!?

Also, I am on Mat Leave at the mo' but if I did this I think it would be good to continue once back at work full time, although maybe on a smaller scale. But, would that be possible if there is no-one here to receive deliveries of catalogues/items? I'm wondering if maybe I'm getting a bit too carried away and should just stop spending money instead of trying to earn more...!

covkimbo~3 years, wow! I've not long started. But have really enjoyed it so far. It helps that I am using the products myself and can rave about them. Especially the Aloe Vera skincare range and suncreams. Haven't used better and such good value. Was sucked into buying Arbonne not so long ago, and Wikaniko skincare creams are just as good at a fraction of the cost!

I've just become an avon rep today! I done it for a campaign about 2 and a half years ago and gave up, my sister done it for a year but recently stopped due to going college and starting up her own beauty therapy business. My admin fee was £15 which they will take 7.50 off first and second orders. Im looking forward to it, mainly to get me out the house and to put on my CV! The good thing about it is you can make it as big a business as you like, offer free gifts, give out samples, do demonstrations, partys etc.

There seems to be some unashamed self-advertising going on here!!
if anyone is really interested in any of this ask yourself - how much am i really earning after buying other people's product, petrol, time etc etc etc etc etc factor it all in and then take a step back and ask yourself is it worth it? i've asked this before and never got a straight answer - how much per week can you get out of usborne, avon, phoenix, greenerlife, wikaniko etc etc. somene is exploiting someone and the game seems to be getting more desperate ...

To be honest flork I'm not doing for the money I've been a SAHM for 4 years and been suffering depression,so its about feeling a sense of self worth. I've applied for endless jobs and had no reply because I've never worked (had first child when at school) I'm doing avon to get myself out of the house, exercise, meet people, gain experience, it will look good on my CV being selfemployed. The money may not be great it depends how many customers you build up.

Come on then tell me your clear profit after 6m and 12 months? how many hours di you do per week?

I agree with flork1 there is a lot of people have no idea how much fuel they are putting in their car, wear and tear etc, converting their income into an hourly rate.

I am laughing at some of the comments on here - it changed my life, products are amazing, just cant believe how amazing they are. See lots of comments have been deleted too - just all sales pitching.

Please be careful before throwing money into any venture. All gloss - need to here of the pitfalls - any genuine seller will tell you the advantages and disadvantages of this type of selling. Havent seen anything on here about tax, NI & insurance especially if the business is doing so well!!!

I run a business, bloody tough! I'm def not one for these parties - actually I cant think of any friends who buy these kind of things either - whats the point of Avon products anyway??? cosmetics are everywhere on the high street so why bother? The last party I went to was an Aloe Vera - I was cringing at the sales pitch and the amazing health benefits - to a point of curing every digestive problem under the sun - expect the medical profession would be very interested in some of these claims!

Bacon~fair enough, it isn't for anyone. However, I am also an accountant and you get tax benefits for home-working. Plus I deduct anything I use for my home business before profit. So computer, car, mobile phone etc. I can actually get tax back.

But as I said, each to their own.

Have only just joined this site so am still finding my way around but in reply to Bacon:

• All Avon reps are self-employed and responsible for their own tax, NI, etc.
  
• There's no 'throwing away money' to be an Avon rep, it's the cheapest and simplest way to start your own business - not a penny is paid up front, no kit to buy (unlike other companies)
  
• Avon has been operating for 125 years in America and 51 years here in UK so a very well established business; products sell themselves - deffo NO sales experience necessary

It's taken both partnerships approx. 11 years but something to aim for - yes/no?

Fair enough for ressurecting in Feb but as this is a zombie thread going back to 2010, given the triple dip recession some of the info and enthusiasm may be out of date it was still an interesting read but then realising some of the posts are three years old - should be taken into account by people keen to do it now.
