Freelance and have been offered a contract for 60 days a year...What things to watch out for?

Hi there

not often on this section of MN, but hoping for some thoughts/opinions/advice if poss please.

I'm freelance and have a number of clients, one of whom is my bread and butter payer.

however, another client has just offered me a contract involving me getting a retainer for a guaranteed 60 days a year.

On the face of it, it seems a pretty good deal. I like working for them, and the money's pretty good.

My main concern is that I want to make sure that they'll be flexible about my availability. They'll have to understand that i cant just drop everything at a moment's notice if they decide they want me.

Can anyone think of anything else i should be looking out for/checking/wary of?

Any little details I should be looking at ironing out?

I've got a copy of the contract and its pretty high fallutin legalese in places, but they're a blue chip company so maybe that's to be expected. I don't think their terms and conditions seem to have changed from previous work with them.

And i'm delighted they want me for 60 days a year rather than 15/20 for the previous couple of years.

Seems a bit too good to be true, so if any of you have experience in this kind of thing, let me know.

Many thanks

should say, i normally just work for a day or 2 at a time on each job...sometimes perhaps a couple of weeks tops.

there's plenty of work, but to be offered 60 days a year definite - for 3 years - is pretty good as far as i can see, especially in the current financial climate.

what does anyone reckon?
