How can DP make it as easy as possible for his employer to do childcare vouchers?

We were planning for me to use the childcare vouchers scheme with my work, but we have recently decided that I'm probably not going back to my job, so we're going to try to get DP's employer to offer them. Can anyone help?

  • Are DP's employer under any obligation to do the voucher scheme? They are a limited company with approx 100 employees
  • What information can DP provide them with to make the whole thing happen as quickly and painlessly as possible?

His employers are likely to say yes, but procrastinate for as long as humanly possible, so we want to make things as easy for them as we can, as DS is already at a registered childminder and we want to start saving money!

I imagine you can ask childcare vouchers companies to send out all the information to the employer so they do all the hard work so you don't have to. Even if only one employee wishes to sign up if doesn't matter as long as company is registered. The same goes for your childminder who will have to register with the childcare voucher provider. I think a carer pack can be sent to them to register. HTH

I run a company with my DH. We have one member of staff who uses the vouchers. I did not set it up, so don't actually know that much about it EXCEPT, I do the accounts and it's a doddle! It's dead easy to administer.

I know that's not exactly what you're asking but hope it provides encouragement!

They are under no obligation to do the scheme, no.

Does your DP think there might be other employees who would sign up? Getting a group of people putting pressure on rather than just him will help.

He can do the legwork of investigating how it all works, exactly what level of admin is involved, and getting information from providers himself and presenting it to whoever makes the decision.

Just to check though, you are not going back to work, but will still be using childcare? That's fine, obviously, but just checking as obviously vouchers can only be used to pay a registered childcare provider.

You don't have to use a voucher provider. That makes sense if there are lots of people using the scheme, but I'm the only one in my company and our finance person administers it themselves, and pays directly to the childcare provider. No commission that way.

Flowery that's right - I'm going to do freelance, so will still be working, but will be self employed.

Good idea about things like getting all the info together, finding other people who might want to do it etc. I will pull as much stuff together before DP goes and asks his employer.
