Question about job share - anyone doing it or any HR people out there??

I am applying for a job that is full time, however the employer encourages applications for job share. I am in a position where I am looking for part time or job share roles, but wondered if it would be better to apply for the job on a full time basis then ask for job share if I am lucky to get the job or ask to be considered for job share only at application stage? The job looks perfect for me and I would love to get it, I just wonder if I specify job share on my application form if I will be ruled out at the first stage if there isn't another job share applicant? Has anyone been in a similar position or can any HR people offer me any advice?

Ask from the start rather than have a full time position offered to you that you dont really want.

If you won't do it full time, only job share, then apply on that basis. They won't want to be scrabbling round trying to find a job share partner once they think recruitment has finished. If you specify job share straight off, they can review all applications on that basis.

Plus you mention not wanting to be 'ruled out at the first stage if there isn't another job share applicant.' But if doing it full time isn't an option for you and you will need a job share partner, is there actually a problem with being ruled out if that's not a possibility?

It's tricky one. I job-share, but sorted out the practicalities and found a potential partner before applying.

I would speak to the recruiter and sound them out. And be aware that the job market is competitive at the moment, and you will have to make a convincing case and demonstrate the benefits to the employer.
