Pregnancy risk assessment - Does an email count as written notification of pregnancy?

Hi all

I'm 30-ish weeks pregnant. I told my manager about the pregnancy in person when I was about 12 weeks. This was confirmed in her notes of our meeting.

I then informed HR a while later (as our HR policy specifies) by email.

I haven't yet had a risk assessment - I notice that the regs say that you need to inform your employer in writing - does an email count as informing in writing? Or would it have to be on paper?

I have a desk job, and quite a lot of control over my working patterns so (despite agonising SPD ) I'm not hugely worried. Just wondering if this is the kind of thing that could get them into trouble?

Email counts as in writing, yes. It may have been overlooked, particularly as your job is not high risk. Ask your manager for a risk assessment to be conducted.

More's to the point, if you have notified your manager and HR of your maternity leave in writing, have you heard anything back, confirming your dates and entitlements?
