NHS overtime

My department has just got a new manager who has now decided that any overtime worked most be done on a bank contract. Obviously this means that any fulltime staff will automatically lose the time and a half for OT plus any p/t staff who go over 37.5 hrs will lose it as well. I was always under the impression that bank staff were paid on the lowest increment point so basically some of my colleagues who are paid a bloody pittance as it is will end up doing their normal job for a lower hourly rate and no OT enchancement. Can our boss actually do this?

I personally don't do extra shifts and take the on average 3 hours a week I work over as the occasional afternoon off.

No way, this cannot be allowed surely, my wages are crap already without being allowed to claim overtime? It's all going to the dogs!

My good friend who may know about this is on holiday due back tom i think, I will ask her if she has heard anything. In the mean time i would ring HR and see if they think it's ok for her to do that, obviously NOT giving your dept info over as we all know what they do to 'trouble makers' even if your not one!!

Thanks - this is a local thing and I think only my dept in the trust is effected. I shall contact my friendly union rep next week to ask.

I think it depends on the trust you work for. My current employer (soon be to ex on the 1st of june ) has a trust wide policy that ward nurses do extra hours as bank rather than overtime. I'm ok as i joined the bank having been in my post for 6months+ so the bank just pay me the same hourly rate as my wages were then. some nurses are still on the minimum band 5 point for their bank hours

my new job, that trust assimilated all bank staff depending on length of service so i will be paid exactly the same whether i do the hours as overtime (I will only be working 18hrs a week) or bank.
