Need to earn £400-£500 a month. Anything I havent thought of?

I need to earn as in title between £400-500 a month. That will be 50% for getting out of debt and 50% for a better quality of life - we havent had a holiday in 5 years, each new pair of shoes has to be well thought out, food shop itemised to the penny.

I am going down the normal job centre route etc but wondered if the genius on MNers had any ideas for me. My talents are very marketable but here they are:

animal care
babysitting
organising
reading
thinking

I have office admin experience. I can only work evenings & weekends because of no childcare for DS. I would love to work from home as then I could do it in the day while he napped etc too.

Reading this back it sounds pretty hopeless doesnt it! I didnt do anything useful and clever like gain a reputation in a field before having DS. I know I am smart enough to do great things but I cant think of what they are or how to prove it.

I have applied to about a dozen vets etc for a job as a student nurse but no one is hiring because of the recession.

Hi, bit late to this thread but I earn that amount working very part time (3-4 hours per week tops) selling forever living products. I know you said you don't want to sell and I didn't either (I'm a bit rubbish at it to be honest) but I just found a few customers to start with and from their recommendations now have a regular customer base. The products are so good they sell themselves.
Drop me a line if you're interested and I can tell you more.

Best of luck with whatever you do!

...or Phoenix Trading, selling greeting cards. It's a lot of fun, and quite easy! There's some info here.

I work overnight, earning approx £50 per shift in a care home. Brilliant job, infact probably a cushy number!! Best decision i made!

Adult chatline operator

DaisymooSteiner · 08/07/2009 11:32

What about joining the bank of your local hospital and doing Saturday or Sunday shifts as a Healthcare Assistant? They don't normally ask for any experience and you can earn almost £13 for a Sunday shift, bit less for Saturdays.

DaisymooSteiner · 08/07/2009 11:33

If you did one 12 hour a shift every Sunday, you'd earn over £600 a month I reckon.

Could you be a witch?

expatinscotland · 08/07/2009 12:02

Evenings and weekends: bar/pub work or hotel would be my suggestion.

I have actually thought of the adult phone line thing...desperation (for money that is!!) But not sure where/how to go about it I would def give it a go! Times are hard

MadameCastafiore · 08/07/2009 12:51

You could do a medical terminology qualification and get a job in a local hospital a couple of days a week and earn that much - you would have to have childcare for a few hours but you said your child goes to school anyway.

The NHS and private hospitals are extremely accomodating about letting mums work part time and unsociable hours!

Believe me you would get no work done around a child unless they are 6/7 or above as the little buggers are always wanting something and disturbing you.

sparklefrog · 11/07/2009 12:36

Well, if you are interested in the adult chat operator route I am happy to talk you through the highs and the lows.

Then you can decide whether it's for you or not.
