Claimable benefits whilst freelancing

Hello,
I was made redundant in February when the company I worked for for 8 years went into receivership, and signed on to claim JSA which i have been receiving regularly. We have also claimed child tax credits and working tax credits. All in all we get about £194 a week in benefits. I have recently got some freelance design work which is for about 6 days a month. I have told the DSS and they have suggested that I fill out a B7 form for part-time work. I'm not convinced that this is the right form as I am invoicing my client and will pay all tax etc myself, but heh ho. Just wondered what you all do to get you through the weeks with no work, what can you claim? Should I set myself up as self-employed? Any words of wisdom?
Thanks in advance
Dawn

I don't claim anything for the weeks I am not working.
Don't know if this is right or not though?

Do you still sign on though, but just tell them how many hours you've done?
