First 'real' job interview tomorrow. How do I prepare?

I have my first qualified nurse Band 5 post interview tomorrow.

It feels like my first ever 'real' interview as it has taken me 5 years of studying to get here, im so nervous, really want the job but so afraid that I am going to bugger it all up.

I have had other jobs in the past, obviously had to have interviews for those but this feels incredibly different- I think because if I balls it up- it will shatter my confidence for other applying for other jobs.

This is what I have been working towards and I feel bloody sick with nerves!

Good luck with the interview.

Have you prepared a spiel about how you are the best person for the post owing to x skills, x experience, and x specialism/know-how?

do you know anything about the establishment where you are applying to work - have found that saying reasons why you want to work especially there rather than else where works well - a) its complimentary and b) it shows why you would fit in there well

good luck!!

make sure you have worked out examples of how you have demonstrated qualities/skills/experiences needed for this job in the past. Obviously for a job like this some of it you are only going to get on the job, but there are some qualities they will be looking for that you will be able to demonstrate you possess with examples of how you've handled situations in the past.

Also, take a pen and paper in. That way if you are asked complex questions you can jot down a couple of things you want to cover in your answers.

If you are asked if you have any questions, you might ask what the team is like, what development opportunities exist, or if there are any of your answers the panel would like you to revisit.

Thanks everyone- these tips are really helpful.

Going to spend the evening 'swotting' up.

(I was QM but have namechanged back to my original mnet name- just in case you are confused!!)

If you are feeling nervous (or excited, since physiologically there 2 responses are very similar), then try this 2 minute exercise.

Imagine something that you really love the smell of ... new baked bread, wonderful flowers ...... anything that makes you breathe in really deeply (and slowly). Imagine breathing in that smell for a count of 3.

Then imagine row of 21 candles that you have to blow out with one breath for a count of 6 (hint: you can only do it if you blow slowly and gently)

[if it were birthday candles then everyone would applaud when you blew out all 21 candles with one breath]

Repeat 4 times:
Smell the wonderful smell (counting to 3)
Blow out the candles (while counting to 6)

Smell the wonderful smell (counting to 3)
Blow out the candles (while counting to 6)

Smell the wonderful smell (counting to 3)
Blow out the candles (while counting to 6)

Smell the wonderful smell (counting to 3)
Blow out the candles (while counting to 6)

Practice tonight. Practice in the morning and then practice just before you go into you interview.

Good luck.
