Resigning on maternity leave

'Evening ladies

I am due back at work on 13th May 2009 (c. 2 months / 8 weeks) after a years maternity leave. I initially took 6 months which I then extended.

I've decided not to go back to work but am not sure when I have to let them know and resign.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks very much
MM

You need to give whatever your normal notice period is.

In addition to my maternity leave? Sorry to be stupid but do you mean I don;t have to let them know until 13th April? Thanks very much.

Yes if your contract requires you to give a month's notice to resign, then 13 April will be fine.

hi flowery sorry for hijack but if OP does this, i.e. gives notice whilst on maternity (therefore not having to work said notice, using last month of maternity) will OP still be paid any holiday accrued on maternity leave in final pay packet or would you sort of forfeit that as you have resigned?

just thought id ask...

Holiday accrued during maternity leave isn't forfeited if you leave employment, you should just get any outstanding holiday paid to you in a lump with your final pay packet as you say.

OP see here about what holiday you accrue during mat leave if you don't already have this information.
