Running your own nursery

Is there anyone who has started their own nursery who could answer a few questions? I am thinking of starting one up, it would be on our own land, but would need to build on it...and wondered if anyone could answer some basic questions...

Think about...

  • planning permission, architect, materials.
  • building reg's, sewege pipes, flood risk assesment, Any large trees on site? As this may effect build.
  • ofsted standards .i.e amount of rooms you will need and how big they have to be for the number of children.
  • ad's for staff/children
  • will it be attached to your house or on seperate land?

Amount its going to cost to build in total + starting salary for staff + whether you want to make a profit in first 2 years?

£6,000+ for architect and plans to be drawn up. (although you can chose whether you want to draw plans)

6 months+ waiting for council to decide.

£80,000 for build in total.(depending on how big)

Around £12,000 a year per staff member

£4,000 on toys,activities etc...

I dont know how much the assesments will cost exactly but I think it will come to around £2000.
