Home based training for bookkeeping - anyone with any experience?

I am considering retraining to be a bookkeeper. The local colleges offer courses, but they are only on one morning a week and don't start until September. I would like to start before then, and work a little more intensively at it, so that I can qualify quicker.
Has anyone any experience of any of the home learning courses, or can anyone offer any recommendations?

Hi there, I did a home based course however I found that there was a delay in the college sending the stuff back to me and I lost motivation very quickly. I think it depends on your personality and learning style. I thought book-keeping would be a breeze but it's really hard because its so black and white. (I did a languages degree and am better waffling!!)
Go for it though but you need to be really motivated.

Hi

I did the Pitman lvl1 & 2 bookeeping at college which was good as the tutor was really interested and explained things better than the book did. I would sign up for the course but get the latest Pitman Bookeeping book and go through that. It has lots of things to practice with and when you do the course it'll help. I think the exam papers only come out a couple of times a year.

Our tutor then helped because he gave references to the ones in the class that wanted to progress and also ran a computer book-keeping course to.

Oh and SAGE is the most popular Book-keeping/Accounts package at the moment along with SUN. If you can come across an info on it all.

Oh and lastly your local library should have copies of the Pitman books for you to look through.

good luck it's a fun course to do.
