I'm back to work for three days a week soon after a year of maternity leave (plus a month of hol before dd arrived!). DD will be going to a local nursery a little way along my route to work.

she has just got over a virus which gave her a fever and involved lots of crying/clinging. so I haven't had time to even think about what I need to organise before I go back!

about the only things I have done are:

  • have my hair cut and coloured
  • buy a few smart looking tops in my new bigger size to accommodate my bigger boobs/tummy etc (still bfing )
  • have got one new pair of work trousers (from a Xmas wedding I went to)
  • worry a lot...

that's it!
don't even get me started on thinking of things for dd eg sewing labels in her clothes for nursery, starting to express and try her with ebm in a beaker.... not started any of that either. plus her birthday is the day before I go back so have a party, presents, cake, outfits (hers and mine!) to think about!

could perhaps clean my work boots, look for a new pair of work shoes for spring.
what else did you do before going back?

thanks (sorry for long post!)

I got to grips with online grocery shopping! Saves me wasting precious time on my days off plus can do order when DS is in bed.

Do you have to do sewing labels...check with nursery if really necessary..mine dont need it.

great idea onadietcokebreak, thanks - I was doing online shopping till she was about 6 months as couldn't face the supermarket and screaming.... will get back on there pronto!

will double-check with nursery, saw it in one form they gave me but not sure if people actually do labels their children's clothes or not

Permanent marker on the labels works well for us

I started to wean myself off DD a little bit... she is soo addictive!

Seriously, before DD started nursery, we'd probably only spent a few hours apart. So I started by leaving DD for longer and longer periods with DH (which I used to go shopping for new (bigger) clothes for work etc) which I think got her used to being without me (and me being without her) before we started the settling in at nursery thing. And DD was in nursery for a week before I actually started at work, which gave me some peace of mind that it would all work out.

We gave up on EBM idea when we found that my frozen EBM tasted of soap and DD (who previously guzzled EBM as a younger baby) refused to drink it. So that was 20 pints of EBM down the sink.

Sounds daft but I did a trial run of getting to work, via childcare, during the rush hour to make sure I could get there on time, but leaving enough time to say goodbye.

It'll be fine, you know. Going to work is worth it just to see their little faces light up when you pick them up, and to drink hot coffee and use the loo in peace.

20 pints

Oh gulp. I'm back at the same time as you and have done none of the things you mention. Next week is settling in at nursery and DS has just come down with a bug. I'm back full time and it never occurred to me to think of e.g. labelling his clothes. This is going to go horribly wrong isn't it?
