if i work part time hours over 5 days - how will this affect my holiday entitlement?

at the moment i work 28 hours in 4 days and get pro-rata holidays. this ok as i,m off one day a week and always ensure my hols go over my day off if u see what i mean.

i may have to change to working 5 days but if i get pro rata hols i will really suffer. what happens with other part timers who work over 5 days?

If you increase the number of days you work you should increase the number of days holiday you get. Easiest to think of it in terms of number of weeks off. If you get 5 weeks off, that is 25 days for people who work 5 days a week, or 20 days for people who work 4 days a week.

If you work the same hours each day the most straightforward way of doing it is just to increase the number of days off. The actual amount of paid time you get off won't increase if you are working the same number of hours. One day off will now be, say, 4 hours off instead of 6, or whatever.

If your hours are less regular, your employer may choose to define your holiday entitlement in terms of number of hours off each year instead - or some just prefer doing it that way. Again, it won't be a change up or down in the amount of time off, as a week off will still mean the same number of hours.

How it works with me, is that I get the same number of days as full-timers, but my days are shorter. But then I work the same number of hours each day. If you work different hours different days, they may give you your holiday entitlement in hours rather than days, so you get so many hours holiday per year.

(and I get bank hols off as normal)

That sounds ok. I had a sudden panic about losing hols and having to take extra days to cover the 5th day.
Thanks

It depends on your employers T's & C's. I worked part time 3 full days a week and I was entitled to 6 of my working weeks of paid A/L ie 18 days. I then changed to work the same No. of hours over 4 days so no pay change.I was still entitled to 6 of my working weeks paid A/L ie 24 days but the pay for each day was less as each working day was shorter. The pay for the standard length 18 days A/L and the shorter length 24 days A/L was the same.
