What job can i train for while at home with children?

Although i would love to stay at home having more children we seem to have run out of room at the moment, so i am thinking about what i would like to do when i do go back to work, though it wouldn't be for a while.

I am thinking of something in the teaching assistant area - i was at university on a teacher training course when i got pregnant with DS but i don't have a degree so can't go for a PGCE and can't afford to go back to uni for 4 years to get a degree/train as a teacher.

Any suggestions for similar sorts of job?
What sort of training would I need to become a teaching assistant for example?

Thanks!

I had no training to be a TA but when I was working as a TA was offered a course to become a Higher Level TA, declined as I was leaving to start my own business. I amd looking into retraining as an Indexer.

Have you looked into how lng it would take you to finish your degree? I'm doing mine 2 nights a week over the next 2 years - it is a long time but ds isn't 2 yet so it means I can still be at home during the day. Once I have completed that then there is a years full time pgce, but hopefully ds will be at nursery/about to start school then?

There is funding available to help you, are you claiming JSA? ILA provide up to £500 I think towards higher eduction? Might be worth contacting your local collge/uni?

What about Open University, doodleboo? How much of your teacher training course did you complete? You will probably get some credits for it with the OU which you can use to shorten the time needed to do your degree.
I started two years ago and with the credits I have from my previous degree I will finish in December. I fervently hope that the local university will then take me on for a PGCE.
