Occupational Health Questionnaire - is depression (in the past) a problem?

I am a SAHM going back to work. I am delighted to have been offered a part time admin job. I have completed an occupational health questionnaire and have ticked 'Yes' to the question 'Do you have, or have you ever had, anxiety/depression?' I suffered from anxiety and depression about 4 years ago and have fully recovered. I have entered this on the form but am now really worried about whether this will be a potential problem or not?

Does anyone know how much weight is attached to these things and what is considered a 'problem'? Can anyone advise?

Hi - in my experience, this wouldn't be seen as a problem at all. At most, you might be asked to go and see their occupational health department but I wouldn't worry about it at all. Good luck in the new job!

It shouldn't be a problem especially as you have explained the circumstances. AFAIK usually these forms go to occupational health, so won't be seen by the recruiting manager - it's all confidential.

Thanks for your responses. I was unsure how much power OH have to decide what constitutes fitness for work. I suppose if you are currently fit and well, they cannot deem you unfit to work? If so, I just wondered why ask about past conditions.

I am trying not to worry, but I would hate to have been given a job, been honest about health and then have the job withheld on fitness grounds. I know I am probably worrying unnecessarily as it is all in the past.

You wouldn't have an offer withdrawn on fitness grounds if you are currently fit and able to work. 4 years ago fully recovered is fine. It may result in an OH appointment to make sure the problem is definitely gone and to see whether you might need any additional/different support, or to explore whether or not it was work-related previously.
