Trying to write a CV ......

In the education part I presume it's just secondary school and onwards they want to know about?

I went to uni for a year but didn't go back because I decided to stay at home with DS. I have plans to return when he starts school. Should I bother mentioning that or not?

Oh and what would this mean. I found it on a help writing your cv website.

"Experience of implementing and maintaining regulatory and quality standards"

When you go back to uni will you have to complete that first year all over again? I think it is worth putting it on your CV, all education is beneficial. You need to make sure that you put a positive spin on why you gave it up don't make it look as if the sole reason for giving up was because you couldn't juggle homelife/studies.

The jargon sounds like you will be making sure that you adhere to industry standards/legislation and that you will be required to implement best practice procedures yourself. What job is it?

nappyaddict · 24/02/2009 13:55

It's for a support/care worker.

How can I make it sound positive rather than it looking like I couldn't juggle the 2?

Is the degree relevant to the job?

Put something like you have successfully completed the first year of a degree which you enjoyed because of X reasons, link this to the job if you can. State that have chosen to take time out of education whilst your son is small and that you intend to complete the degree when he is at school or whatever.

If you are asked about this at interview I think it is important that you put emphasis on it being your decision to take a break from your studies, taking a break from education to raise a family is not a bad thing, you don't want them to have images of you running around tearing your hair out because you couldn't cope with assignment deadlines etc.

Will your future studies interfere with this job you are applying for? You don't want them to think that you are just applying for this job as a stop gap measure until you go back to university.

That's one thing I was worried about and why I wasn't sure whether to put that I would be returning or not. I was hoping I could work this job around my studies when the time comes but it could be that it isn't possible.

As forever said, do you have to repeat the first year, or do you have credits for it so you start in second year?

If so, then try something like this..

"I have completed the first year of x degree and have gained credits in x subject, y subject etc. I have agreed a temporary break in my studies so I can fulfill my parental and work responsibilities, and I will complete my degree in 20XX."

HTH

OOps X post with forever optimistic.

Similar response.

Okay, in that case I would just state that you have SUCCESSFULLY completed the first year of the degree and leave it at that. If they question you at inteview say what notsoclever suggested but state that you don't have any immediate plans to return to education as your priority at the moment is returning to the workplace but that you would consider completing your degree on a part time basis or through the open university once you are more established at work.

nappyaddict · 24/02/2009 14:28

I'm not sure if I would have to redo the first year because I wouldn't be returning to the same university.

Also should I put my address and DOB on there?
