Feeling a failure - support please!

I work part time and stay at home with dd (2.8) rest of week. As a household we are only just keeping head above water financially and I feel I need to earn more money. I have a degree but feel totally unqualified to do anything other than retail which I have always worked in. (Degree in English Lit). At 35 I am regretting never having done any vocational study or training that would give me more options, and now I feel it's too late. Any advice on what I could fit in around childcare? Problem is it's just not worth me going back fulltime in retail as extra income would immediately go on nursery fees. I just can't think of any other jobs I would be qualified to do, entering at a level where salary would be sufficient.

open university to get ta qualification or something? Depending on income you can get funding for some courses I think.

childminding? That way you could look after your own child too - no fees.

Firstly, don't you dare call yourself a failure! You have a lovely dd and you are keeping a home. That's more than most people can manage and you should feel proud of yourself for wanting to work and pay your way when many others would be happy to rely on benefits.

If retail is you forte/experience what about one of the many direct selling companies that are around? You can usually choose your hours, and although the pay isn't brillinat, if you can fit it into evenings and weekends then you're not paying out for childcare...

Things that come to mind are Pampered Chef, Avon Virgin Vie ..

Hope you find something to suit

How about proofreading or online editing working from home when your little one is sleeping?
