The inland revenue cant tell us anything coz my mat finishes in a couple weeks and i will get the same im already getting till april 09 and then we have to ring them then and ask them what i will get if i am out of work from april 09- april 10 which will be 0 if i dont go back.

At mo i get £53 a week child tax credits. My hubby gets £19,000 a year before tax etc.
The calcultater online is pants.

I just want to hear of people who were in similar situations and if their child tax increased when their maternity finished and they didnt go back to work

Thx

have you tried entitledto.co.uk. I fear you may find that it won't much due to your dh earnings.

SKYTVADDICT · 07/02/2009 10:29

One thing I love about Mumsnet is you can always find someone who is in the same situation as you are. I too am considering (only considering mind you due to money) not going back to work and was wondering the same. I think tax credits stop don't they if you don't work at least 16 hours - will watch your thread with interest for any ideas.

My DP earns about £23,000 before tax so I don't think we will be entitled to much.

HappyMummyOfOne · 08/02/2009 17:54

On 19k you OH earns too much to qualify for working tax credits so CTC is all you can claim. It will go down by at least £10 a month when the baby element finishes.

It wont increase to cover the loss of earnings.

pavlovthecat · 08/02/2009 17:57

Jadey - how many children do you have?

pavlovthecat · 08/02/2009 17:59

Oh i see you have one, sorry !

I currently get £45? a month ctc and I earn £21k, DH is out of work, we get almost bugger all. I am guessing your ctc will go down to around that?

pavlovthecat · 08/02/2009 18:12

Oh......I just looked, and we are entitled to more! Oh well, that will be a call to CTC people tomorrow. So, basically, ignore my previous post!

jadey24 · 10/02/2009 22:28

Lo i was gonna say u should be getting more then that.

How did it go with them if uve rang them?

Called them, they changed details, but DH only lost job in Jan so likely we wont get anything extra this financial year, but if he is out of work come April, it will go up. Woman on phone could not tell me, she said she just amends the details and the assessment letter will let me know new amount, if any.

pavlovthecat · 10/02/2009 22:35

Thanks for asking btw! Have you been able to get any more news about your benefits when mat leave ends?

SlightlyMadScotland · 10/02/2009 22:38

Why will your payments not change until April 2009? You should tell them of the change immediately (ie. in 2 weeks time) and they should adjust it immediately. That si what I have always doen and they change it with effect immediately.

Having said that - your award may go up because you have less incime, but then back down again because you work less qualifying hours IYSWIM so the net effect may be no change...you should still tell them now.

pavlovthecat · 10/02/2009 22:55

Well, I am presuming, but we have already earnt too much this year. As in, if DH had not lost his job we would not be entitled, and even on the wage he has thus received this year, it is too high for help. I thought they based it on wages April-April? In which case 08-09 will still be too high...

Oh I do not know, I am making it up aren't i?

pavlovthecat · 10/02/2009 22:56

Slightlymad - told them already - called them yesterday, they are adjusting it/not adjsuting it accordingly. I work almost full time.

SlightlyMadScotland · 11/02/2009 17:16

It is based on April to April. But they will adjust it mid year if circumstances change, and again at the end if the actual income is different from expected.

What will be too high 08-09? If you have over estimated it will be fine. You won't be penalised unless you have over-estimated by over £25K. If you have underestimated they will adjust it and add teh extra to your 09/10 award.

Your 09/10 award will be based on an estimate of earnings. They assume this will be the same as 08/09 unless you tell tehm otherwise. If your income is lower they will take this into account.
