Straw Poll Please. Do you work for the Council? Did you have to miss work due to the weather? Will the time off be paid?

That's about it really!

Just wondering if how you are taking the time off:

flexi/toil leave
annual leave
special leave
dependency leave
unpaid leave?

The Council I work for is still 'undecided' and just though i'd ask on here.

Sorry to post and run, but lunch break over (and Council internet surveillane about to kick in!), will check back later.

TIA

charity in london. we are unpaid for monday but annual leave for tuesday.

fishie · 05/02/2009 18:13

oops sorry, paid special for monday.

ew have a choice of carers/dependant leave - as schools were closed, taking holiday or unpaid.

Work for NHS foundation trust - if you couldn't make it in in Monday / Tuesday, its annual leave, TOIL (if you are owed time) or paying the time back. Personally think that's a bit mean - people didn't have a choice about not coming in, but I suppose the NHS has a business mentality these days (even if employees don't get the business perks that come with it!)

Local Authority (London Borough) - if we made it to work we are allowed to claim the full day (everyone was sent home soon after lunch time).

Anyone who didn't come in at all has to take annual or flexi.

Concensus in our office is that it seems unfair on those that could not get in due to no public transport. So perhaps your's could be persuaded to be a bit more generous!

Thank you for the replies. Seems the LA i work for are soliciting other authorities to find out how they have approached this issue. So far they are not allowing dependancy leave, even if officers would have been able to get to work (but for the childcare issue with schools being closed). They have also fielded the argument that if they pay the officers that did work, they would effectively penalising those that DID work as they will not get an additional pay.

Anyone else?

I made a personal decision not to go in, to avoid making a 40 mile round trip drive in snowy conditions. I took it as annual leave but could've equally taken it as flexi.

I wouldn't expect to be 'given' a day off.

I work for a charity and took it as annual leave, on the advice of my boss.
