...after 5 years at home with my DSs.

It's the ideal job - fits in with school/pre-school hours, but I'm not sure I'm ready for it in my head. Does anybody have any practical advice for me to prepare myself? Things I can do to make the transition easier? I'll be working as an NVQ assessor.

Can't help with your question, but good luck!

oh you'll be ready for it when the first pay cheque lands in your account

oh good luck, my nvq assessor had her work cut out what subject are you assessing

Sorry, I meant I can't help with questions related to the job, but there's loads of obvious little things to do that will make it easier to get out of the house in the morning - make sure your wardrobe is planned for the week ie shirts ironed, tights bought etc. Looking the part is always half the problem for me. If you are taking your own lunches these can be planned in advance too. If you are worried about being seen to miss your family do not bring in any photos until you are established. Most of all don't try to over-achieve / make a strong impression straight away - everyone will be happy with you making a decent start to begin with, then you can make an impact once you've really figured it out.

Thanks for that everyone! The thought of the paycheque (already spent on a holiday!!) will definitely keep me going.

I agree with isedtoread, very good advice. I always find if I am going for an interview or something if I feel I look good but still feel comfortable then that really helps.

Well done for getting a job, after 18months at home with dd I feel my brain has turned to mush. It will be great for you to get out to work and speak to some adults during the day.
I'm sure you will be great, just dont panic and if you are unsure of anything always ask someone, at least then you know you are doing it right and not blagging anything... xx

Thanks I'm really excited about it. Feel like I've blagged my way in really, but I'm definitely qualified enough for the job, and I know I'll pick it all up quickly enough.

Luckily for me there's another p/t worker, so I'm not breaking new ground. They seem really cool with her leaving meetings etc early to pick up her kids, so fingers crossed it will all be fine.
