If I was employed I would be off sick on full pay. Anyone else ever think its not fair!!

I broke my leg on boxing day and haven't had any time of sick. I am so tired from heaving myself around on crutches all day and looking after a cold-ridden toddler at night, I want to take the rest of the week off sick.

Will someone please tell me its allowed! Am having a "its not fair moment" - if I was employed I would be signed off on full pay and would be able to lounge around guilt free.

if it makes you feel better, you wouldnt be signed off on full pay with most companies nowadays. my employer 'allows' 5 days sick then you go on to Statutory Sick Pay, which means you have to be off for three days before you get any ssp, and then its a maximum of £75.40 a week. I was under the impression that freelancers could get some assistance though?

really - blimey, times have moved on since I was employed. Or, I had very generous employers. I have pretty much been working throughout because i have no excuse really - I can do it from the comfort of my sofa. Just feeling a bit sorry for myself

Well, you are entitled to feel sorry for yourself. I hope your leg heals soon

You can get SSP as a freelancer - provided you've paid your national insurance class ii, my DH claimed it last year. It's not very much though, and you need a sick note from the doctor...
