How much to charge for IRONING?

I am thinking of taking in some of my neighbor's ironing, and I am not sure how much to charge. I am thinking of charging by weight. Does anyone do this? If so, how much do you charge? Any tips would be appreciated!

I live in south east London and put 25 items in the ironing shop and they charge me £20. A double bed sheet is counted as 2 items, a shirt, blouse, trousers etc as 1 item. I'm very happy with this price but it it was more expensive then I would think twice about paying someone. Not sure if this helps but perhaps if you work out how long it would take you to iron 25 items, you could work out your hourly rate from this? Guessing it would be about £8 per hour....or perhaps I just iron really slowly!

My friend has set up a business doing this and to get an idea of local prices and competition, she called a few local ironing companies and posed as a possible customer. Easy. Good Luck

Where I live 25 items are £5,about 8 years ago you used to see ads for a bin bag full for £10......I have seen ads saying 20p an item too.

i pay 15 items for £10 and kids items are classed as half an item.

My God nickschick, where do you live? i want to move there! how can they only charge that much? surely that's slave labour?!!!

I live in Oldham near manchester and i think its sahm who do it cos most of the ads are in the supermarket noticeboards-i dont use them tho (unfortunately ) i have to iron my own.

I called around, and around here (Cambridge) one firm chared £1.10 per item and another £6.50 per kilo (about 4 shirts) which I though was outrageous!

I am thinking about charging 75p per item. Would you pay that?

75p sounds spot on for South East. Especially if you pick up/drop off for very local customers. I HATE having to go and collect it!
