DD screams when she goes to her childminder. It's horrible! When will/will it get better?

Hello everybody! My DD is ten months, and started with her childminder at the beginning of December, just two days a week. It took a lot of crying but by Christmas she seemed to be settling in. Then over Christmas we had nearly three weeks off, with holidays and illness combined. This is her third half-day back and when I dropped her off she SCREAMED - yesterday she did the same and spent most of the day crying apparently, although as soon as we walked out the door to go home she was all smiles and absolutely fine. When I drop her I can hear her crying all the way up the road as I walk away. It's awful! Does anybody have experience of this? Is it normal? Do you think we're effectively starting from scratch after the holidays and it will get better? I have to work (and I want to, to be honest!) but this just seems so traumatic for her ... and me too!

I look after children who cry when their parents leave, but they normally stop the second the front door closes. I encourage parents to come and peek through the window, to see how happy they are.

I did look after a child once who was very clingy and cried a lot, but he was also like this at home.

Try and pretend that you think it is the best idea ever for her to go and play with the minder and she may go along with you. Did you take up references from other people who have used the minder? She may be fine, or there may be a personality clash between your DD and the minder.

it will get better when she works out that is her new routine and she can't change it lol.

this too will pass...

it is awful - didn't mean to sound unsympathetic, but it will get better...
hopefully...

Thank you ... I know it will or should improve, I've just got those silly creeping doubts that perhaps the childminder isn't kind to her, although I like her very much, and her references were great! We will persevere!
