Mosschops - what's the main thing worrying you? is is that you feel forced into carrying on your degree? can you not return to your old job p/t (am assuming you were in work because of your ref to maternity leave)

would you be able to finish degree with OU? so you could fit study round your baby? or switch to another institution more geared up to p/t students?

sounds daft but follow your heart, would it really be so bad if you did put your degree on hold for a while and finished it with OU when you had more time to do it? would you be able to afford for you to do 2.5 days a week.....

btw Tescos and all the major supermarkets are crying out for mothers who can do limited hours because of their family commitments, if you can do a couple of evenings a week you could easily get work at a superstore, if you don't mind the work, it's a bit monatomous, but sociable, not badly paid and fits around the family....and you might even be able to fit in study on top of it, if you so choose (btw I did 18 months of evenings shifts at Tescos and they were more than flexible)...good luck

I work at Safeways and work two evenings a week from 6 to 10.30 and some Saturdays for 5 hours and Most Sundays because it is time and a half! They are very flexible and because my main job I pay no tax-on average I take home around £400.00 per month for between 16 and 22 hours a week. The kids are asleep anyway on the nights I work and I wouldnt really be doing anything else at the weekends. I f you were going to work two full work days and then pay childcare you would be worse off-I promise!!!

I work in Waitrose 2 nights a week 6 -10 and some Sundays - paid at double time. I get lots of extra hours at Christmas time which is much appreciated. Evening jobs are not usually advertised as it's usually a case of not what you know but who you know. Most of the evening staff are friends and family members. But a few members of staff rang the branch on the off chance when they were looking for new staff. It's a great company to work for, after a qualifying period you are entitled to 12% discount off in Waitrose and John Lewis stores. After 3 years service the discount rises to 25% to spend in John Lewis stores. The biggest perk is the partnership bonus paid out each year.

Call whichever Supermarket/shop is convenient to you directly and ask them.
