Any salespeople who have to travel on here? Have been offered job...

I'd like to know how hard or easy it is being a salesperson who has to travel when you have 2 DC, one 6yo and the other 3yo.
Have freelance DP so we are fairly flexible on the childcare front.
I would be selling a product aimed at customers of hairdressers'/beauty salons. Would be the rep for Scotland.
I don't drive but will get my license before the job starts next summer...hopefully.

Any tips, experience?

I know a lot of agents who travel and sometimes I travel for work myself but I don't sell. For me I like to be home for bed time most nights a week if I can manage it. Chldren like consistency so as long as they know the routine I think they can adapt to most changes.

Good luck with your driving test. My last few years has been dominated by getting the older 3 children through their driving test age 17 and glad I did.

thanks Xenia,
wish i'd passed at 18 instead of failing twice and going travelling...
Scotland isn't too big and I'm hoping I could stick to the bigger towns and not have to go too far north...
Am hoping I could travel for one week out of four and be home the rest of the time. DP would be around a lot for the DC.

At Least you'll be starting in the summer - so even if you get home at 7 - it's still light. and by the time winter comes - you'll have decided if it's worth sticking at. cos there's nothing worse than being out on the road in the pissing rain and darkness!

I am not a salesperson but my job in training means that I spend at least 70% of my time in different places and I cover an area of about 100 - 150 miles in each direction. I actually really enjoy it and time my sessions so that I am home by 5om where possible. Where I have to run a later session I make sure that I can do the school drop off. I have an aupair who does drop off and pick up when I am not there and a couple of good friends who will help out with my youngest who is 2 if it looks like I am going to be on a long one so that she is not with my aupair all day. I couldn't do it without this help as no 2 weeks are the same.

I enjoy the drives and most of my areas are within 2 hours of home so I can do them in a day. When I have to cover Norfolk, we're in London, I do it as an overnighter and stay in a travel lodge and just zap that area over 2 days so that I don't have to go there again for a good few months. I take fruit and water for the car, have all my favourites pretuned into the radio and make sure that I always stop at a starbucks or a costa when I see one to break up the journey.

I should add that I only work PT, no more than 3 days a week, I couldn't be on the road 5 days a week
