I'm spitting tacks over the comments made by my Insp. At a meeting he congratulated the MEN for designing websites, creating useless spreadsheets, promoting SHARPS telephone system for kids to report knife crime(NO one has called in!!!)ON the other hand I have stopped parents fighting at a Navitity!(True)Assisted with information of getting someone arrested for MURDER. Stopped two groups of teenage boys fighting (over 40 kids involved) alone. Got an Afghan interpreter (another 15 year old boy who wants to join the UK police) within 15 mins to help an Afghan boy dumped in the UK. AND what thanks do I get. NOTHING. Help! I want to move back to the Westend on a part-time bases. Does anyone know of any jobs going in South Westminster, 27 hours!

Sorry the above isn't the only stuff I've done but you get my drift. I get on with doing Police work not websites and spreadsheets!!! [fangry}

No advice buts lots of sympathy. Those who do, jsut get on with it, those who don't, get the credit for lots of flashy stuff. Maybe the sparkle off the pretty pictures on the website dazzled him.

Whatisthepoint2 · 18/12/2008 16:12

Thank you slug I have just spent time with the girls, poor Ds spent 3 hours in one coffee shop or another with Mummy moaning to her female colleagues (couldn't all get together at one time.) I never normally do this but my sanity needed it. Sadly my house is a mess now as I've got no housework done either. It's that new saying 'It's not having it all but, doing it all' for women in 21st Century. I should be grateful I have a job.

Haven't you learnt yet?
In the Police Service you only get noticed if you suck up or fuck up.
If you just get quietly on with it and do your job, you all but disappear.

deanychip · 18/12/2008 16:29

not being funny but i would jsut shut up and put up, its crap but the only way that you wont become mad as a mad thing.

You are clearly good at your job, keep it up but dont expect recognition.

I dont for mine and this is part of my daily working life.

worry about stuff that is more important.

Its shitty i know. (You are a star to us)

Whatisthepoint2 · 18/12/2008 16:32

Yes, you are so right but, I really don't want to suck up to a W*er. I do full time PC's job in 27 hours. I haven't got time to suck up. AND I do unpaid hours to make sure I don't fuck up. After 21 years I'm fed up.

unknownrebelbang · 18/12/2008 16:34

Are you Wonderwoman?

Agree with doublebluff, suck up or fuck up is the only way to get attention.

I'd prefer to just get on with the job, tbh.

Whatisthepoint2 · 18/12/2008 16:36

deanychip You are right too sweetheart. I know my public are grateful. Sadly most of the people I help can't write a letter of thanks. Anyway why should they, either they pay their taxes or keep me in employment. I am going to take your advice and worry about more important stuff like my DS's Tea and my bathroom needs cleaning.

OP posts:
deanychip · 18/12/2008 16:36

21 years in the trade you should know by now surely!

Im the same, i jsut dont expect any recognition, just some chocs occasionally....ok i admit it, i buy the chocs myself, but i then feel lovely and yes..."worth it"!!

Whatisthepoint2 · 18/12/2008 16:41

unknownrebel, haven't you seen me with my pants over my leotard in your High Street? It has a few wrinkles now but it still works. When I first joined I had the body of Wonderwoman and they were sucking up to me! Now, I'm like any grumpy old woman I have disappeared.

I am an old sweat too What.
Wheni was a prety young thing people knew who i was now I am a 30 something mum of 2 and ONLY part time ( grrrr) I am nigh on invisible!

TurkeyLurkyWithAllTheTrimmings · 18/12/2008 16:45

I'm with you lot. I'm part time, a PC so lowest of the low and female. Its still 'jobs for the boys' in my force for the most part.

But it pays the bills and they are good if I have to take time off etc.

TurkeyLurkyWithAllTheTrimmings · 18/12/2008 16:46

And I've got 17 years in so am an old bag too. Don't the new recruits look young now?

DoubleBluff · 18/12/2008 16:48

Turkey
I am PC, Female, part time and....

A domestic violence officer
Completelt bottom of the pile!
LOL.
I don't worry abou it anymore.
Just do my best, do my hours.
And enjoy the days when i am not there!

TurkeyLurkyWithAllTheTrimmings · 18/12/2008 16:50

I look hideous in my uniform now though. I need to go on CID so I can wear something that doesn't make my arse look humungous!

It pays the bills though and I work with a good bunch of people which can make it all worthwhile I suppose.

Whatisthepoint2 · 18/12/2008 16:58

Turkey, I work mainly alone. I think I just need to change posts and learn a new job just to keep my interest in the job.

OP posts:
Whatisthepoint2 · 18/12/2008 17:00

Turkey, I don't think the new recruits look as good as we did in tunics, skirts and stocking. Very Carry on Constable.

TurkeyLurkyWithAllTheTrimmings · 18/12/2008 17:01

Yes and that is the beauty of our job, at least you can apply for a specialist post if you ever think you are not enjoying it or are getting stale. I'm in a specialist post but am always keeping my beady eye out for jobs on other units.

Whatisthepoint2 · 18/12/2008 17:04

Need to make tea now and apparently need to decorate Ds's room with Christmas things. ds is pulling me away from the pc must go I think he's hungry speak later

.......and the women got handbags and shorter truncheons than the blokes when I joined(someone tipexed an off and on switch on mine )

Those were the days...

DoubleBluff · 18/12/2008 17:09

I still have my handbag inmy locker somewhere!
I got a fullsize wooden truncheon!

Whatisthepoint2 · 18/12/2008 19:49

My last word on this. I was so Pee'd off about it yesterday that I was crying in public. I don't know what they thought of me. I went into a station and phoned a sgt, who I used work with, he is also the fed rep. I just wanted to know if my annoyance was reasonable. He said it was, that he didn't like 'Insp style of working' that he knew I worked hard. He told me to speak to Insp direct otherwise, it would fester and then pop up in another situation in an inappropriate manner and that crying would make the person understand it was important to me. I didn't agree with the crying bit. But took his advice. The good thing about tell him first that I didn't crying when speaking to Insp. Trouble is it is still bugging me. I think he was right and my DH agreed with him. So I going still say Good morning etc tomorrow and look for a new post in Jan. Thanks for a bit of solidarity and fun
