hi don't know if any1 can help or have any advice?
i have been working as sister for over 5 years in an acute hospital assessment area full time, of which consisted of working most weekends, upon getting pregant with first child discussed with my manager about the type of hrs i would like to do upon returning; fri sat sun and mon, 4 shifts on and then 10 off, fri and mon our busiest days and my husband could look after our daugher, save on the nursery fees, this was all agreed verbally,
whilst on mat leave service was reconfigured and split i no longer had a job in the assessment area but on a new ward, all the sisters moved to the new assessment area can work nights and weekends, they now say i cannot work weekends, as they are changing it so that no sisters work weekends on the wards, this is a huge pay decrease for me, and i cannot get child care for two week days every week, with the pay drop and child care costs it would not be feasible for me to return to work, they have offered me another option....to demote myself to junior nurse again and i can work he hours i want.
they admit had they not moved me to the ward but kept me on admissions ward i would be able to work these flexible hours as a sister.
i did not want to move areas, they moved me against my will.
i now have to appeal!
union rep says i may have a case.

have you requested your hours in writing? i am sure there is a set procedure to follow, they have to give you a reason why you cannot have flexible hours in writing within a certain time. Google it, i cant remember which government dept deals with working hours but there is a website that can help you.

yes i have spoken to ACAS and union rep, requested in writing mid november, had meeting in dec, and was told by HR on phone yesterday it had been refused, only cos i phone them to chase it up, awaiting the offical letter so i can appeal, but i don't think that'll make any difference i'll have to take it all the way or demote
seems very unfair tho
they have done nothing but worry me whilst i'm on mat leave
