The moral question

Not even sure where this fits in the topics - here goes ... seeking collective MN advice ...

Have 1 child, have just gone back to work full time, husband is SAHD

Work has offered me a new job which is quite high profile but also quite hard work, but in the long run, would be a good career move

Tonight did pregnancy test and there you go - little blue cross - so, evidently I'm only about three minutes pregnant, so can't possibly tell anyone (a bit surprised by the way, it took over three years to fall pregnant the first time, so we assumed it would this time, if at all)

So, the question is, - do I take the job, knowing that I'll be leaving in 7 months on maternity leave, or do I stay in my position which I know well doing work that I am comfortable with, and which would create less fuss when I go on maternity leave .....

Take the job, definitely.

CountessDracula · 22/03/2005 22:06

take it yes

CountessDracula · 22/03/2005 22:06

Oh and congrats!

mummytosteven · 22/03/2005 22:06

yes and congrats (CD reminding me of my manners!)

mmmmchocolate · 22/03/2005 22:07

Take the job and many congrats xx

MowJo · 22/03/2005 22:12

Are you planning to go back to the same company in the same capacity? If so, yes I would take the job.
Of course that's a difficult question when you're three minutes pregnant. Congratulations!

KoalaBear · 22/03/2005 22:12

oh wow - that would be unanimous then

I think that's what I want to do - just needed to know it wasn't the sly option

MowJo - yes, planning to go back to same company in same capacity if they let me

Definitely take the new job.

Congratulations!

WideWebWitch · 23/03/2005 12:04

No, take the new job, definitely.

WideWebWitch · 23/03/2005 12:05

It's not sly, you're a valued employee, clearly. Being pregnant shouldn't = demotion/crap prospects. (I know it does all too often though)

Gobbledigook · 23/03/2005 12:07

Take the job with no hesitation in my opinion

For all they know, you don't find out till 12 weeks down the line!

Marina · 23/03/2005 12:08

Absolutely www, not a sly option at all Koalabear. Well done on both fronts

BellaLasagne · 08/04/2005 08:45

Congratulations KB

I have a similar dilemma which I'd appreciate your collective opinion on - I've been in my current job for 18 months, which is OK but I don't enjoy the work much.

I'm in the middle of applying for another job at another organisation which is a very rare opportunity to do something I've always wanted to do. Trouble is we've been ttc no. 3 for over a year now (I'm 40) so could in theory get pg at any time.

Do I continue the application? (It's a long process involving multiple interviews, tests etc)

Also, if I was offered the job then found I was pg should I accept it and should I tell them if I was, as KB, only 3 mins pg??????

WideWebWitch · 08/04/2005 09:15

Yes, continue the application! And if you get pregnant still go for it!

mummytosteven · 08/04/2005 09:16

yes, definitely BL. ttc is stressful enough without putting you careeer on hold.

jampots · 08/04/2005 09:48

yes both of you take the jobs - you may not get this opportunity again and congratulations

honeyflower · 08/04/2005 09:48

Go for it BL. I was in the same situation, and got pregnant literally the day after starting the new job. New female boss looked a bit gobsmacked when I told her, then beamed and gave me a big hug, and it's all worked out brilliantly.
