Other HR bods can I cry on your shoulders?

I feel really bad moaning when so many people are having a bad time at work atm. And I know HR people are the devil incarnate for most.

However I have just had the HR day from hell.

I had to call an employee and tell him his sick pay had finished and he would only be paid SSP from now on - he cried. No money for the mortgage etc.

Then I had to dismiss someone I know is already in financial trouble, has Kids etc just before Christmas.

I just hope I am not doing redundancies in the New Year Or that it will be me being made redundant by some tactless Director!

I know we have to do these things occasionally but it is hell somedays

Not an HR bod, but just thought I'd sympathise. That sounds like an absolutely horrendous day .

Hope you have had a large glass of vino or two, sound slike you deserve it.

callmeovercautious · 10/12/2008 23:29

Thanks trixymalixy

Had a glass of red and am off to bed now to see what tomorrow brings

I suppose none of us really know atm.

Gosh I am being very self absorbed this evening - bed time I think

I hope today is better for you

I am not HR, just one of those wondering about VR before the CR hits

It must be hard for you too

JingleBennysAndJooniper · 10/12/2008 23:32

oops, meant tomorrow is better

trixymalixy · 10/12/2008 23:37

Benny, I was in this topic because I am being made redundant .

Just a sign of the times.

CocoaCloset · 10/12/2008 23:39

If HR pretended they gave a crap about those who were staying in gainful employment it would be less of a shock for the others

callmeovercautious · 11/12/2008 17:45

Jingle - it depends on your circumstances what your should choose. If you are being offered a good deal to go now and you are pretty sure you can find something else then go for it. However if you love your job and want to stick it out in the hope you will come through the other side then that is the right chioce too. Helpful aren't I

Trixymalixy - sorry about your news too. Hope you get a good package out of them to see you through Christmas.

Manly pat on the shoulder from me too....

abcmum · 11/12/2008 18:35

Overcautious - could be worse - we could work for Woolworths!! - hope the glass of wine works

ilovemydog · 11/12/2008 18:37

Don't they make the line managers do it?

Funny, have never thought about it from the H/R viewpoint (or that they have hearts - )

callmeovercautious · 11/12/2008 23:32

thanks ilovemydog. Yes usually the line manager does so I don't do that very often anymore, usually I just take minutes.

And abc is right, I could work for Wollies or about 10 businesses that I know of in our small town that look like they will be closing down soon

I definately preferred my job when it involved recruiting people and training them - both things that are in short supply everywhere.

What's your problem cocoa?

callme sorry you had a rotten day. I do feel for you. My first set of redundancies I had to do on the day of the Christmas party. That was horrible.

RibenaBerry · 12/12/2008 13:16

Oh Callme, sorry you had a rotten day. I'm not HR (I'm legal) and I'm always relieved that I don't actually have to do those types of meetings. I did a few many moons ago in a previous job and it was horrible.

Pinkjennybellrock · 12/12/2008 13:23

Callme - I feel like all I've done this year is redundancy planning. Hideous.

Cocoa - grow up.

callmeovercautious · 12/12/2008 20:26

Now I was ignoring the negative as I am in a happy place right now (well I am trying to be )

Thanks for the support, the rest of the week has been quite positive.

Flowery - the Christmas Party must have been fun

Ribena - you are lucky

Pinkjenny - How are you not off work with depression?! Hope things pick up for you in the New Year.

My boss and I were holed up in a corner being ostracised and sent dirty looks by the staff for the short time we managed to stay.

No one from senior management showed their face, obviously.

Glad you've had a better rest of the week.
