Asking any designers freelance or otherwise for recommnendations for a printing company that could do high quality work for my photography business - hopefully one where the finished product looks more expensive than it is.

Where are you based?

brokenrecord · 18/11/2008 18:17

I'm based in London - was assuming that I would probably be ordering online though.

When I worked for a toy company, selling very expensive toys (Typically £3k-£15k), I used Orange Press in Wembley.

Perhaps worth contacting them via E-mail, explaining the sort of thing you want, quantities, getting a quote.

I would not suggest using somewhere that you can't physically visit (or they visit you), as you want to see samples of what they can produce, you want them to assist you with how to prepare digital files suitable for print, plus you want their expertise in knowing that paper stock/finishing combinations produce high quality look, at affordable price.

These days most I expect all printers will accept files digitally - via e-mail/web-upload or on CD/DVD. How exactly will depend on the filesize. I suspect a brochure would be sent to the printer on a number of CD's/DVDs.

Thank you. I think that was why I was hoping to pick a designer's brains and go 'I want one like that' without having to know too much about paper stock, etc. Ho hum...

I keep seeing pics of stuff that people have had printed in the States and I get the impression that there are perhaps more companies who do this kind of thing as standard without having to get too involved in the printing process.

What are you actually wantingot have printed? Have you designed something yourself or is it your photos?

brokenrecord · 18/11/2008 21:12

Not photos. It's not finalised yet, but a welcome pack, gift vouchers and a small (A5ish) ringbound booklet on card.

My partner orginally logged onto this site because we're due to have our first nipper, (probably our only one) in August. I ner thought that I?d see a questuion on here about print and design though!

I?m not sure if you need help and assistance with your project, but for what it?s worth I?m a graphic designer, photographer and print expert with 26 years in the industry. As far as print goes I?ve worked on all the major processes with the exception of gravure aand flexography at all stages of the production process.

You can find a bit of information about me at www.linkedin.com/in/michaelpreston1 and also at wwww.creative19.com.

I know tons about the print production process and I have loads of contacts around the country. Let me know if there?s any way I can help you.
