Can anyone please help me with this.

I am due to leave work at xmas to go on maternity leave. I am entitled to SMP but I have also found out I am entitled to recieve my monthly bonus / commission that I earn from the time until I leave work.

Ie. Any work I have done in September, October, November, December I get the commision when the work gets booked in. So if the worked is booked in Jan or Feb thats when I get paid it.

My company doesnt know this yet so I am waiting to tell them, but firstly want to find out if I will have to pay tax / Ni on my SMP because of the additional monies (bonus) I will receive.

If that makes sense?

Can anyone help?

You pay tax and NI on smp anyway I think, albeit a small amount.

SMP is taxable income anyway, along with your salary to the start of ML and any bonus payments but you may find that you can reclaim some at the end of the tax year as your code will assume a certain level of income for the year. You may even be fortunate enough to find your SMP @90% allows for a previous bonus payment if it was paid to you during the weeks used to calculate SMP.

Hi,

So the basic £117.18 I will get taxed on?

So how much will I get then after tax / NI?

Depends on your current tax code, and whether you are a higher or lower rate tax payer - info here
