How much break time for a 6 hour shift?

Hi, hope someone can help me. My 19 year old daughter has a gap year job in retail. She currently is working 11am - 5pm. She has been told she is not entitled to a break.

Is this correct? It seems a long time to go without fluids.

The maximum we can work at our workplace is 6 hours, so that makes sense to me. I'm sure they'll let her have something to drink but not a proper break IYSWIM. I only have one break in a 12 hour shift.

Althouth I'm not in retail, not on my feet that long, but she's young

here's a link to the Working Time regulations

From a quick skim, it looks like OVER 6 hours is where the breaks kick in, will read more thoroughly.

She gets a break if the shift is longer than 6 hours, so no she's not entitled to one. But can she not get a quick drink of water or something?

20 min break only after 6 hours. most employers are rather more generous though.

Thanks for your answers. Was going to go into lioness mum mode, but might take a step back now. I will just make sure she takes water to drink on the bus to and from work.

The thing is that the rule kicks in at exactly 6 hours. So if she reports to work 10 mins before and stays to cash up etc for 10 mins more etc then she is entitled to a break.

20 mins in 6 hours, not at the end of the 6 hours.
