Put forward for second interview, BFP this morning...

I went for an interview yesterday, with an agency who said at the end of it that they wanted to put me forward for second interview. I got a BFP this morning. I have looked into SMP etc a little bit and know that if I change jobs now I won't qualify for SMP. That said, the salary on offer is so much higher than what I earn currently that I'd be able to save quite a bit of money before going on maternity leave.
I feel I should ring my contact at the agency and explain that things have changed somewhat since yesterday, before my name is put forward. I was wondering whether this is the right thing to do, or whether I should go for second interview and see if they like me enough to offer me the job before telling them I'm pregnant? Any suggestions gratefully received!

Don't tell them!

Going for an interview is not making a commitment to the company. Wait until you have to actually make a decision, i.e. if they offer you the job.

And I wouldn't tell them you're pregnant until you're several months gone either, if you do take the job.

Terrible and illegal as it is most employers would never knowingly employ a pregnant woman.

Get the job offer in hand before you decide. You don't have to tell your new employer for a good few months yet if you do change jobs. There was a thread on here a few weeks ago about a similar dilemma - I think the consensus was to keep quiet at interview.

I know two people who have been in this situation. You are not obliged to tell them yet. You will be able to work something out with them. Good luck!

I went for a job interview when pregnant for a job I couldn't really do beyond about 6 months pg. I didn't really think I'd get the job, and nothing's set in stone until you get the job. Luckily they made the decision pretty quickly and I got the job. I left it a week or so and then told them, pretending I'd just found out. As YKNOTC says, most employers would never knowingly employ a pregnant woman, so you have to play these stupid games. If I were you I'd keep schtum a bit longer, I only had to tell my work for health and safety reasons as the job was pretty physical. You are only legally obliged to tell an employer at 25 weeks I think.

Sorry, that message didn't make a lot of sense did it? Go for it, don't tell them, good luck and congratulations

Go for interview and see what happens.

youknownothingofthecrunch · 11/11/2008 11:26

Oh yes, and huge congratulations!

This happened to me at a time when I really needed the job. I told them a few weeks after I started. Don't tell them! Congratulations and good luck with interview!

I just had a similar dilemma- search for my insane decision making post from this past weekend... (the one that says HELP need to decide by Monday am).... I decided to take the job and not say a word about the pregnancy. I interviewed last Friday at 5 wks pregnant- had a BFP the same week the interview letter came. Decided to go for it, thinking I wouldn't get it. Well, I got the job. I almost told them after I accepted then decided not to. It seems to me that waiting until the pregnancy is a very sure thing (i.e. 3 mos) is the best time. Good luck with your interview!

Thanks to all who replied. I haven't said anything to anyone yet and have decided to keep quiet for a bit longer and see how 2nd interview goes. And thanks for the congrats, this one has been a 22 month ttc marathon!
