OK, I've been offered a new job (internally) but my current team don't want me to go till they get someone new

and even then they want me to split my time between old and new team. My question is, am I within my rights to ask for my new terms and conditions to apply in four weeks when my notice period would be up, or is that wishful thinking?

Get the new manager to work it out with the old one. Very difficult to get caught in the middle on these things. Personally I think trying to do two jobs at once is very difficult. I'd rather do a slightly longer notice (say six weeks, and then a complete change).

It is really tricky - on the one hand I don't want to leave my old team in the shit, but on the other, I've been promoted and want to get on with learning that job (and getting paid for it!). Also, the person I'm replacing has moved into his new job but has to come back to do part of the old one, so the sooner I'm in place the better. The other issue is I'm on flex at the moment but won't be in future but get more holiday, so I need to know so I can still build up flex for a day off or not bother. At the end of the day, it's not my fault they haven't got enough resource - they made someone redundant in our team earlier this year (I had to reapply for my job too), and we've got really busy since then.
