Had enough. Cant do it anymore. I want to keep my teaching job but not the management bit. Anyone know how I stand legally with resigning from part of my job?

No idea about the legal stuff, but you need to speak to your Head.

I think you just speak with your head and say you want to step down from the position at half term. It gives them time to advertise the post internally.

How much non-contact time did you gain from that post?

I get 2 hours a week but it the main part of my job in real terms including extra meetings etc. The trouble is I know they arent going to get anyone internally to do it and it will mean others will need to increase their workload dramatically to do mine iyswim.

What is your job, if you don't mind sharing?

Senior teacher but on TLR rather than Leadership.

Could they not hand over the job to another eager-beaver or even divide the job up amongst a few? The school won't fall to it's knees without you and if the 'burden' falls to other ppl the head can sort it out, 'tis what they are paid to do but as often is, it's an opportunity to do some tinkering which heads love!

Just see the head and ask how soon you can leave post. It would be Xmas at latest but if internally replaced then sooner.

Look after yourself, Hercules. You are no good to the school if stressed and unhappy. There is no shame in stepping down - much better than muddling through in the wrong job.

hercules1 · 12/10/2008 10:18

It's a little different in my school. DOnt wanto to go into details. You are right of course, the school will manage. There isnt really any possibility of tinkering partly because the job doesnt equate any where near to the extra money and there is no room for extra pay.
It's a great job if you want career progression but not if you dont.
