Rude member of staff dissing the company......

DH has a member of staff at his place who is a supervisor, managing a team of about 8.

Said supervisor is always banging on about how rubbbish the company is, how they dont pay enough and that other members of staff get paid more.

Do you think this merits a verbal warning? Its very demotivating for his staff and obviously not conducive to good team spirit! Any HR types who can help?

Harrogatemum Presumably your DH is this person's line manager? Has he tried to address this without using a formal warning? Has he read the employer's disciplinary policy to see if it mentions this type of thing?

Hi Flowerbeanbag, sorry for delay in reply, yes he is, the person in quesiton has been told informally several times to stop dissing the company but to no avail...I will ask him ref the disc policy.

Yes do get him to have a read, even if it doesn't contain anything specific about this type of behaviour he should make sure he follows the procedure.

If the person has been picked up on it informally without any improvement, this type of thing would merit a formal warning usually, particularly for someone who is supervising other staff obviously. So a verbal warning is probably justified, the key thing is to make sure it is done absolutely in accordance with the company's disciplinary policy.

I would expect the policy to say that in the event of a verbal warning being on the file, should the person still fail to improve, they may end up with a written warning, so that is a possibility but hopefully a formal verbal warning will do the trick.
