ANY IDEAS FOR WORKING FROM HOME???

MUMSANUTTA · 08/09/2008 07:39

Third and last child starting school soon and I would like to find something to tide me over for a while, but that I can fit in with school runs etc and hours to suit. Have been a SAHM now for 10 years. Gulp , and although no great pressure for me to go back to work, I know it is time to do something and bring a little extra income into the family and take pressure off DH. Any ideas of what I can do few hours a day from home. I do not know where to start. My background is secretarial. I have thoughts of training to be a midwife, but thats not right now. Any advice appreciated

I am kind of in the same boat as you except my DS is 2 and we need gthe money so am trying to find something convenient. I haven't as yet found anything that I would deem trustworthy IYKWIM.

Although I have signed for Mystery shopping which is £20 plus the product per time, online surveys at Ciao and Valued Opinions.
I know this isn't what your looking for but it is a bit of extra cash and it works around you. I have been paid by both survey companies so they are genuine.

I will be watching this thread with interest for some ideas too.

Thank you MamaMia for ideas. I too have tried mystery shopping, literally did about 3 assigments but tbh, the ones I did do paid £10 to do the assignment, £5 of which I probably used in petrol and they were far and few between! I will try the surveys though thanks.

Become a modern day Delboy Trotter!

How about having a go at making some money out of e-Bay. Are you knowlegable about any particular products?

Two of my friends have made quite a bit, buying and selling computers & other techie things, and one friend has done well with antique books.

I'm not saying you should sell computers or books - it's worked for them because they know their subject and the valus of these things.

Is there anything you are pretty knowledgeable about? e.g. do you collect anything? Would you know a bargain when you saw it (and where to find them)?

You could try being a virtual secretary and work from home.
One site that might be usefull is www.peopleperhour.co.uk .

Actually, its .com , but its like a bidding site for people's skills.

What about working for Usborne Books at Home?

I currently do this whilst looking after my DD full time (she is 2) you can pick and choose your hours and if you have your child at home for some reason you can still take them with you. My DD loves it if I go and visit pre-schools she goes off and plays whilst I show the books.

There is no "you must hit sales targets" so if you didn't want to work in school holidays then you wouldn't have too.

If you want I can send you some further info.

Hi Angela, I am interested in this are you able to send me any other info you have on this. Does it work on commission, is there an initial outlay for the books?

Also Mummamia, I am signing up to be a mystery shopper. I am new to mums net, but I'm liking what I see so far, this is great advice - thanks!!

Hi Delina,

I would be more than happy to send some further details to you. If you email me on [email protected] and I will forward some details on to you.

It is commission based but the joy is that you can pick and choose your hours.

There is an initial outlay which is normally £38 to which you get over £100 worth of books and stationary. They also give you optional incentives to which you get further free books

I work as an agent for a company selling children's toys.

It is ideal for me as I can either take my daughters with me or work evenings and weekends. Like Usborne it is commission based and there are no targets.

MMDiva and MaN, which Mystery Shopper agencies did you sign up with if you don't mind me asking? I thought about doing this but never seemed to spot any decent companies that did it.

Many thanks
