Is it possible to work 3 night shifts a week and still function with a small child in the day?

& school runs and all the rest that comes with it. Need money for christmas (dont we all) and have applied for night work in Marks and Spencers.

Anyone have experience in this?

I find it difficult to sleep past noon though and as a result am knackered

What hours do you do? Mine will be 10pm till 7am. They are asking for 20/30 hrs a week.

i doubt ill be able to sleep till ds goes down at lunch time and ill only get a few hours before the 3.30 school run.

I want and need to do something really but i dont want to run myself into the ground doing it.

I do 7.15pm until 7.15am 3 nights a week!

I couldn't function without nursery but my DS is only 2 so I guess it could work.

I have to walk home from work and then walk a mile and a half to DS nursery then get the bus back and go to sleep at about 11am until usually about 4pm.

Wow mama diva well done. Im trying to do it without the need for nursery though. May have to get some help from someone for a few hours a day just so i can sleep some.

I work 9 pm until 8am

My sil couldn't do it. She is a care assistant and thought she could work 3 nights and nap in the day. However she had a toddler that wouldn't nap and needed lots of attention.

She was exhauseted and she ended up having to get my mum to look after her dd.

Muckypups I did it over 20 years ago, and can still remember how shattered I was! Had a 4 year old Lo at nursery.

Similar hours to yours. Ended up wasting all weekend to catch up on my sleep.

However you could try it for a couple of months to get some money, and give it up if it's too much. Good luck!

I cared for a child whose mummy did this. She came home from work @ 7.15am and went straight to bed. Her DH dropped the little girl off at 7.30am with me and went straight to work. Mummy slept til1 1.30 and collected from me at 2pm.
It worked fine for them.

I work 2 split nights per week & have no childcare or family support. I have done this since DD 6 months old, she is now 19 months. It was easier when she was younger and I could sleep when she did. She doesn't always have a nap these days. The housework is always suffering and I am permanently tired. It might be okay as a short-term thing but I wouldn't do 2 nights together.
