I came across this yesterday when reading dd's bedtime story. It refers to Mrs Storm who is the tutor to a very spoilt girl.

"She...had given up teaching in schools when she married, as she needed time before she started work for shopping and housework.... In spite of the hours fitting so well, Mrs Storm daily decided to give the job up. "It's not worth it," she told her husband. "I would rather shop in my lunch hour...." Each evening Mrs Storm's husband persuaded her to stay on, for he was certain she would die of exhaustion if she shopped in her lunch hour..."

I was wondering how to explain to my dh that i must surely be dead of exhaustion by now on this basis.

I don't remember that bit from Dancing Shoes but I it's a good book anyway.

None of my relatives understand how teaching consumes your whole life.... they don't get it when I want to keep lots of holiday weeks free for me and family to just be free to loll around or do something when we choose, rather than constantly be driving to visit others.

I hope other teachers out there know what I mean.

If I've been working really hard on reports/marking etc, and then the phone rings just as I've got into the swing of it, they get really annoyed if i do not take the call- my mother even texts then querying where I am- I'm working at home, but few people seem to understand that fact of life, besides other teachers.
