So I started a new part time admin role in May. 6 month probation. Very different industry to where I have worked before, lettings but within housing association.

I’ve today had the above chat. I’ve worked in law firms before and this just sounds quite heavy handed to me, in fact there’s never been a need for this chat! I’ll have weekly catch ups re this.

Any advice?

One thing you might try doing is writing down the various processes, standards etc as you currently understand them, noting where that information came from e.g. from the lettings procedures document you were directed to, as instructed by the other lettings assistant, as instructed by your manager.

Then go through each section with the other lettings assistant to make sure you've got it right, and where it's something she doesn't know talk it over with the manager at your next 1:1 weekly meeting.

You may want to take a copy of the template for the property inspections report and make a note yourself about how you understand each section needs to be completed. Do these notes in a different colour & font e.g. green italics, and again check that your understanding is correct with the manager (not the other assistant, she seemed to think yours were fine before).

Make any suggested corrections then get it in writing that they are correct. That way, they can't say you've done something wrong when you've followed the signed off processes. In fact every organisation, especially smaller ones where only a couple of people know how to do things, should have all their processes and standards documented so if anything happens like one of those staff leaving and another on holiday/off sick, then someone else can pick up any urgent work.

Thanks all for the feedback.

I’m currently in work after not working yesterday (non working day) and off sick weds pm.

one of the first things that came to my attention was that a letter we send out was false and discriminatory. This has been sent out for the past 2 months and no one appears to have checked it. My colleague told me just to send it with that wording.

I’m going to do my best for now here but look to leave.

my colleague told me also that “things change all the time here”. What on earth?! I really don’t get that and it makes things very confusing. Why do things change all the time? Yes, legislation changes and maybe scenarios. But not a constant stream of changes.
