ADHD burn out, mental health breakdown and work

Hi all,

I am currently on annual leave. I started a new job at the start of new year. Its been a disaster with personal problems, ill health, adhd burn out and a subsequent mental health breakdown. My work has really suffered and I've also got work related stress. I am due a meeting about it when I return from leave. I know I'm going to lose my job (my dream job as well). I have sought support from work but its just not helped. I took 1 week sick but it was not enough to recover. I have contacted the union who have been supportive but I genuinely do not think they can do anything. My poor performance is not fair on management, collegues or my clients. I'm devastated and its spoiling our family holiday. I hate my brain sometimes 😒 I just don't know what to do

Do you have reasonable adjustments in place?
Are you still in probation? And/or have they begun a capability process?

It’s only a job. You can get another one and it might suit you better. We aren’t all suited to all roles and that’s ok. It will probably be a relief for you when it ends, and if you’re lucky there may even be a settlement in it.

Yes they've put reasonable adjustments in place but they are just not working 😕 no capability assessment done

Are the personal problems due to work or outside work?

As a manager I’d want to support someone to do well at work, and if they’ve got something big going on outside work that might be a conversation about what is happening there. That might be carers’ leave or a sabbatical for someone struggling with supporting elderly parents or someone who is terminally ill, to a temporary adjustment in working hours or more flexible hours for something like a tenancy eviction or problems with a child’s education.

Have you made use of everything available to support you at work - occupational health assessment and recommendations, Access to Work, employee assistance packages?
