Returning to work after being out for years

I was medically dismissed from my job in pharmacy 6 years ago. After working for the same company for 20 years.

I applied for a pharmacy job last week and I’ve had an email to say I’m through the first part.

now I’m second guessing myself. My health is still bad although has improved in some ways.

I’m worried returning to work will restart the part that has settled down (stress is a big trigger) more importantly I’m worried i will let them down if my health gets worse. Am I nuts to think I can go back to work?

or should I give it a go?
It is a full time position but they are open to flexible.
thank you

What made you apply in the first place? You have nothing to lose by going for it and if you find it too stressful you can just hand in your notice.

I applied because I loved my work. I miss working and this job needs my skills and is only at the bottom of my road. So no commute.
I guess I felt the ‘stars aligned’ if you know what I mean.

it’s a larger company so it should have the option to increase my skills too, as that’s where I was heading before I became unwell.

financially we it won’t make much difference.
My kids are all in secondary or college this year. But maybe I should stay with them rather than push to do this? As it will exhaust me, cause flare ups and possibly ruin what time I will be home.

I guess, if I’m honest, I’m really lonely too.

OP I think you should go for it but be honest if it would help you. You could ask for part time hours or a slow ramp up at the start to get you back into it. Might make it less likely you get the job though but equally if they take you on you'll know they will be supportive.

Really though you'll be best placed to know what you can handle with your illness. 💛
