Uncompensated Overtime

Looking for advice. I have for the last two years, been working an average 60-70 hour week. I travel and manage/install tech systems. Travel this year is over 90% The days are long. The trouble is, I no longer get overtime due to my grade. If I was on the lower grade I'd be getting much more money with this amount of overtime.

My boss agreed to time off in lieu and 2 ad-hoc bonuses a year to compensate. There is no way I could take all the time off in lieu and our bonus scheme is a way around the silly overtime rule.

I was content with the compromise.

Unfortunately, there was a management restructure last week and my boss has been made redundant. Question is, would you raise this with your new boss immediately or wait a little? I don't want to be bringing a problem to his doorstep immediately. But I also want to be compensated for the additional 20-30 hours I do each week! Arrrrgh! What to do!

I’d raise it immediately; has your boss left with immediate effect?

He leaves at the end of August, but, everything is already transferred over to the new manager.

My old manager is very disgruntled at being made redundant. He also wanted to keep the bonus thing unofficial because it avoided any HR involvement. I think questions would've been asked by HR as to why these hours are being worked if he had engaged them. I don't think he be keen on disclosing the agreement with me new manager.

Yes raise it, and if it is an issue then don’t work more then your hours until they come up with an acceptable solution.

100% get official clarity. Otherwise you’ll find come August no one will know what you are talking about and you won’t get any bonus

Thanks, I think I will. Not working the additional hours is really difficult when on a customer site. What I do means that when I start something, you have to get to a finish point. Everyone accepts the hours are longer, and who we provide the services for helps with job satisfaction.
