How long is normal to wait after a Friday interview?

Jojo2408 · 06/07/2026 11:13

Hi all,
Just need a bit of reassurance as I am feeling so nervous waiting for a response from a potential employer.
I had the interview on Friday afternoon, it’s now 11am on Monday. Would I have heard anything by now or is that a fast turn around? I know Monday’s can be quite meeting heavy, as they are in my current role.
For context I think there were about 6-7 other candidates and there was a task as well.
In previous jobs, I’ve received a call the next day. As time is going on I’m slowly losing hope.
I put a lot of effort and time into the interview and really tried to demonstrate my capabilities. I’ve been overthinking all weekend, questioning whether I answered their questions well enough. The wait is literally killing me! Trying to keep busy but my mind is reeling :’(

Sorry I think you'll need more patience.

I'd email on Wednesday with a bright and breezy, hi keen to move forward, do you have any feedback type email.

Heyhelga · 06/07/2026 11:17

Don't be surprised if you don't hear anything until the following Friday I say. Fingers crossed.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 06/07/2026 11:21

A week. Depending on the organisation...a month or more.

DH will have been waiting 6 weeks for a response - but that's standard organisational time-lines for where we work.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 06/07/2026 11:23

You are being very unrealistic. It depends on the organisation and type of job as to how long, but Monday morning is just not realistic for any organisation really.

Tel12 · 06/07/2026 11:24

Did you ask when the successful candidate would be notified?

ClaudiaWankleman · 06/07/2026 11:28

There have been only a few business hours between your interview and now. You've got to hold your horses!

WonderWeeksArentReal · 06/07/2026 11:30

Do you know whether it was the only day of interviews for the role or is there a possibility they are doing some more this week?

I'd expect the panel to need at least a few days to get together and review their feedback/scoring.

hexsnidgett · 06/07/2026 11:38

This morning would have been really fast. I have been known to wait months.
Try and forget about it and start preparing for the next one.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 06/07/2026 11:39

I’d give it a week.

Humblebumbley · 06/07/2026 18:22

Sorry but that’s not long at all, I’d be expecting an answer at any point this week…

Completely get the impatience though! It’s torture waiting and they really should have given you a deadline to expect an answer by.

raffathegaffa · 06/07/2026 19:27

Fingers crossed you get the job!!

just to say, I worked in HR and was involved in lots of recruitment - it was fairly standard for us to tell the candidates it may take up to 2 weeks to make a decision so don’t worry. There’s only been a few business hours since your interview anyway, and Mondays are very busy. Good luck 💕

cauliflowercheeseplease · 06/07/2026 19:41

It depends they could have more applicants to interview over a few days. I waited a week once!

I hope I’m wrong but whenever I’ve interviewed for a position or recruited for a post on a Friday, the successful candidate has been informed that day and those that were not appointed were told- with feedback- the following week. This is NHS , and for me, snr management posts

Minniliscious · 06/07/2026 19:52

I found out 3 weeks after a recent interview that I’d got the position. I had given up hope and assumed that I didn’t get it.

That sounds very odd for any job really, nethermind senior NHS positions. I’m sure you know that that’s very rare really.

LlamaDuke · 06/07/2026 20:26

It depends on the organisation and their process, plus there could be a number of variables - for instance they may have more candidates to interview this week, the recruiting line manager may be out of office, they may not have written up all the interview feedback yet etc, etc.

I wouldn't have expected you to hear today if your interview was on Friday though, as it seems a bit soon. Frankly, if it was a civil service job, you might be waiting a while yet (based on my own personal experience).

Same here, NHS, panel sits and reviews late and then calls are made to candidates same day.

It's really not odd in the NHS. Every nursing position I've ever interviewed for I've nearly always been told the same day , apart from one where I was told the next day. I appreciate, however, that this may not be the norm for other organisations, who potentially have a lot more applicants for job roles and hence more candidates to interview.

It’s certainly not the norm for most organisations. And I think being interviewed on a Friday afternoon, and there being 6-7 interviews and a task given too, Monday 11am was too early to be worrying.

It's not at all rare. I've sat on many NHS interview panels (including consultants). Wherever possible, we told candidates the outcome on the same day.

tourdefrance · 06/07/2026 22:54

Not NHS here and I try to interview all the candidates in one day if at all possible.
I will generally then tell the successful candidate on the same day and then the unsuccessful ones within a few days. Sometimes I need to sleep on it if choosing between two.
If asked I say to expect an update within a week.

nrsvje355 · 06/07/2026 23:22

I interviewed some candidates on a Friday. My boss favoured a different person to me. We offered the job to the person my boss favoured on the Monday. They then said they wanted to chat with their wife and said they’d call us back the next day. The next day they called to say they didn’t want the job after all. We called the person I preferred on the Tuesday. They accepted. They are brilliant. And even my boss admits we ended up with the very best person and I was right and he was wrong. So I’d say - you’ve plenty of time to hear back yet.

SurreyisSunny · 07/07/2026 06:17

Could be a week or more. Be patient!

Iocanepowder · 07/07/2026 06:21

It could be anything.

I have once been offered an internal job after a few weeks. I was also the top choice candidate.

I have also been called back the same day.
